2010 Mustang Power Dome: Get used to it, because it’s coming

While most news related to the auto industry in the past weeks has been related to the fact that the big three are currently in a flaming downward spiral that is sure to only end in a disaster the likes of which these companies have never witnessed, the boys over at Ford still managed to make time to give us another shot of the 2010 Mustang. The shot is only a corner of the hood, but it shows what it needs to. Introducing: the “Power Dome” hood for the 2010 Mustang.

Every guy loves things that “pop out” from the rest of a relatively flat surface- if you catch my drift- so it should come as no surprise that I love the already well-known ‘hood bulge’ that will adorn the new 2010 Mustang. Ford’s teaser image shows this bulge- which we mentioned a few days ago is there because of a strut tower brace on GT models- and I have to say that I think it’s terrific.

“The subtle surface changes on the fender edge make for a more dynamic design,” said Chief Designer Douglas Gaffka in a press… [Read More]

Ford has sprung a leak: New info on 2010 Mustang’s performance and aesthetics

This is what I think car enthusiasts love the most, leaked information about upcoming cars, and Ford is absolutely giving us what we want. According to user TMSBrad at TheMustangSource forums, the new Mustang will be receiving what all Mustang enthusiasts dream about- a power increase.

Yes, the 4.6 L V8 will indeed get a power boost of an unconfirmed number of ponies. I don’t expect anything amazing, but I wouldn’t stop to think that these beefier numbers will also come along with slightly increased fuel efficiency numbers, as is becoming the standard among automakers who are hoping to entice buyers with the prospect of faster cars that are lighter on the wallet.

Other information revealed through this leak includes a host of bits and pieces about the interior, highlighted i think by this quote “Interior feels more “open” than previous model. May be a result of higher seating position as the greenhouse feels larger.” In addition to the roomier cabin, expect better interior trim options including a Grabber Blue interior stitching with a Grabber Blue stripe on the seat as an option for the Grabber Blue Mustang, as well as an orange interior… [Read More]

The shift is on: Ford’s teaser photo of the 2010 Mustang shift knob.

Ford recently released yet another teaser photo for the upcoming 2010 Ford Mustang, but this time we aren’t seeing any body work. No, this time Ford decided to tease us with the glorious image of its shift knob for the yet-to-be-released Stang.

We can learn from this picture as we can from any other, and the most important bit comes in the form of the numbers 1 through 5 on the knob, which of course means we will be seeing yet another 5-speed sending power to this pony car’s wheels. I, for one, would have enjoyed seeing a 6-speed, but who’s counting anyway?

Despite the image being only the shifter, there’s more to be learned from this; I see finely-stitched leather and quality metal with a chrome finish surrounding the shifter housing. Both of these seem like throw-aways, but the reality is that if every little piece is perfect, the whole car ends up being perfect as well.

In addition to other little things, the 2010 Mustang has what has been absent from many American cars for many years: what appears to be an… [Read More]

Bold Moves: Ford MoCo releases photos/video of 2008 FR500CJ Mustang

Remember when we told you about a rumor floating around regarding the release of a 2008 FR500CJ Mustang? Because we haven’t seen a Cobra Jet since the popular 1968 model, we realized that a revival of the CJ may have sounded a bit far-fetched.

Well, nothing verifies rumors more definitively than hi-res photos and videos.

We knew back in June that the 2008 FR500CJ would feature the most powerful modular engine ever produced by Ford MoCo – the Romeo 605. Of course, the exciting thing about this release is its race-readiness, but the Romeo has to meet NHRA regulations so its power output will be listed as “400hp (est.). Anyone who knows this engine know that 400hp is totally lowballing this machine’s potential.

What we can tell from these new photos and video is that the drag tires are beefy and the ornamentation is abundant. Note the hood… [Read More]

Saleen to release 2009 Dark Horse Extreme Edition

Looking to close an already spectacular release year with a bang, Saleen recently announced its final release for the 2008 year: the 2009 Saleen Dark Horse Extreme Edition.

By first releasing a composite sketch and following up with some photos, the company confirmed the speculation that this high performance vehicle’s numbers aren’t lying. Along with the 620HP coming from beneath the hood, this horse is able to impress with styling cues found throughout Saleen’s previous releases, including the Heritage line.

“The Dark Horse provides the capability of extreme horsepower and provides the detailed look our customers expect,” says Marc Musial, Saleen’s Chief Powertrain Engineer. “By merging the Super Shaker with the Extreme powertrain we have created a no compromise solution for people looking for both performance and classic Mustang looks.”

Filmaka.com Mustang film contest draws inspiring ideas for the brand

The Ford Motor Company, JWT Team Detroit and members of Filmaka.com are hosting a contest to see who can compose the best Mustang-themed short film. The tagline? “Everyone has a Mustang story—what is yours?”

The finalists were recently announced for the contest, and the film titled “Numskull” – directed by Zack Resnicoff and written by Sonny Calderon – was one of ten winners chosen from 22 semi-finalists who were given $5,000 to produce their works. That’s a lot of Mustang ads.

Entrants in the contest have either chosen between eight storylines provided by Ford and JWT or produced their own. Each of the ten winning entries, including “Numskull,” is receiving a 60-second ad spot each week during the Knight Rider series.

The grand prize winner will be given the privilege of directing their own promotional film… [Read More]
