First of all thanks to Mark, he is sending a can of 1613 and should be here in about 5 days. When I get that part of it I intend to map the entire under the hood (no engine) and show what colors/sheen was used where, stay tuned..

Steve,

Sorry for the delay in reply. I have been traveling. My email address is mcksiezyk@sherwin.com if you still want to send the pictures.

Also, if you like the new paint, I could ask our lab to make a can with the old semi-flat sheen to see if that solves your problem.

Please let me know and thanks for your kindness in replying to me.

Mark,

Results in on the OEM: JASA FORD DIA9295 BLACK that I picked up in the DIA lacquer the other day. I tested the 50/50 mix meaning 50% lacquer thinner and 50% DIA9295 and used my detail gun to spray my test piece. The conclusions are that in comparison with Ford OEM paint on a part that I took right out of the wrapping is that the match is 100% on Fords color and sheen. Many people can do this with a detail gun but for the hobbyist it's just convenience to be able to go to the parts store and just buy a bomb can right off the shelf and do what they have to do. I appreciate your taking and interest in this matter and on behalf of all hobbyists, Krylon is not only reliable but it is a product that is of the highest quality and we can tell you guys take pride in your products. I'm going resume testing on all the paints that I've ordered, when I get them and who knows maybe you won't have to do anything with 1613 but to make it available once again. Thanks for you time and we hope to hear from you again...

Sincerely,

Steve

You bet Mark, I'd be glad to help you any way that I can. Black is pretty close to black in most (but not all) instances and it is a matter of the paints reflective properties. As you've probably read in my thread I did stop by an auto body paint supplier yesterday and picked up a pint of Duracryl DIA (this is on the can) "For: OEM: JASA FORD DIA9295 BLACK" it is a lacquer. I have tested this paint on a cowl strut with original paint still on it and to the best of my abilities it looks to be correct. Now bear in mind that I have not reduced it and nor did I apply it with my gun, I used a Q-tip and nothing is set in stone for me at this point. As far as the paints reflectivity I don't know how to describe that to you. The only way that I possibly could is to have you take a look at the picture in the thread and or get you the full sized picture. If you take a look at it you'll see a side by side comparison with the Krylon 51613 which is a great paint by the way, and Dupli-Color DE1635 FORD SEMI-GLOSS BLACK the DE1635 is very close but the thing that I noticed was that it is a thick paint and you and I both know that the paint that the auto makers of the time used was fairly thin, hense rust. I read about a product that Eastwood makes that they claim is thinner, I'm curious when I get my order to see what the sheen is like compared to original Ford paint. Also I might add that the DE1635 is an engine enamel and it's primary use would be not for under the hood parts but for engines, whether that makes any difference to anyone I don't know, it may to some Mustang fanatics. So when I get my Eastwood, Krylon, Dupli-Color and the OEM paint side by side I won't know which will be the better match. The reason that I have reservations about the Duracryl is it may be the correct color but I'll never really know what and how Ford may have tweaked the paint, hardeners, fisheye eliminator, retardants, etc, trial and error. When I get finished with this I'll update the thread and let everyone make up their own minds to what they want to use. For me the closer I can come the better, if not right on. How can I help you Mark?

Sincerely,

Steve
